Cenotaph of Newton is a reflection on the spaces and structure of the book as an object. A proposal that develops the idea of understanding the space of the spine as the place of content. This utopian project by architect Étienne-Louis Boullée (1728–1799) features a design on the gutter spine, which is transcribed as a sequence of pixels on each page. This contemporary take on the painted spine, a tradition that seems to date back to the 12th century, extends the contours of the spine design inside the book. The book thus becomes the sole catalyst for reading this image, made possible through its binding.
